This Century Art Gallery presents its newest show, Zooillogicals® beginning Tuesday,
November 11 and continuing through December 19, 2003. The bold and imaginary
canvases of northern Virginia based artist Chica Brunsvold depict visionary
creatures of every kind in bright colors reminiscent of a dreamlike jungle.
Big and small cats, birds of every kind, snakes, elephants and crocs all crowd
Brunsvold’s imaginative compositions. With a vivid tonality inspired by
Gauguin’s vision of the tropics, Brunsvold’s creations bypass reason
and communicate by colorful composition directly to feelings.
A member of Who’s Who in American Art, Chica Brunsvold has been accepted
in 125 national watermedia exhibitions, has had numerous one person shows
and is the recipient of 24 national awards including the American Watercolor
Society’s Harrison Cady Award and the Arts in Mississippi Award.
Sharing
the same space on the gallery’s first floor will be a selection of crafts,
including pottery and paper mache pieces, celebrating the same colorful animal
world as ZOOilogicals. Vivid and imaginary selections from Karris Swink Barry’s
Animal Pottery, from Janice Arone of Barn Swallow Pottery and Williamsburg’s
Hank Mook will be available for viewing and purchase.
